Machozi Ya Mwisho Initiative was founded by Lawrence Omondi and Winnie Ajiambo, a couple who experienced the heartbreaking loss of one of their newborn twins, Baby Gweth, due to excessive bleeding a few weeks after he was born. This personal tragedy inspired them to create an organization dedicated to ending maternal and neonatal mortalities.
“The Machozi Ya Mwisho Initiative is more than just a non-profit organization; it’s a movement born out of love and loss, driven by a vision of a world where no family has to endure the pain of losing a woman while giving birth or a child to preventable causes.”
The name, Machozi Ya Mwisho, meaning “Last Tears” in Swahili, reflects their hope that no more families will have to endure such preventable losses. Driven by their profound loss, Lawrence and Winnie focus on raising awareness about the difficulties that confront expectant mothers and newborn babies in the realm of maternal healthcare. This dedication serves as a powerful reminder that even in the face of profound grief, hope and resilience can pave the way for meaningful change.
Their story continues to inspire many, drawing in volunteers and supporters who share their passion for maternal and neonatal health. Together, they are building a community where every mother and child is given the best chance to survive and thrive. The Machozi Ya Mwisho Initiative stands as a beacon of hope, proving that from the deepest sorrow, the most impactful and compassionate actions can emerge.
